The New Qualifying Totals for USAPL Raw Nationals are in and I like them.
The New Qualifying Totals are finally on track! For years I have been saying they needed to raise the QT’s to a reasonable level. This would stop the circus that Raw Nationals has become the last few years, hitting an all time high of 1300+ lifters this year. In my eyes this was not a true national level meet. The best should compete against the best and that wasn’t happening with the monsoon of people that would qualify.
Not to mention that hundreds of these competitors would be competing at a “National level” in only their 2nd meet. This was a BIG problem. Spotters and loaders are exhausted by the time the strongest lifters have to compete. What happens when you have an 800 lbs. squatter that needs help at the end of a very long day? We all know the answer and have sadly seen it. People get hurt! It seemed like it was all for the money. With 1300+ lifters at $100+ per lifter it adds up quick! I am so happy to see the new qualifying totals will really change things for the better and raise the sport to new levels.
